XXVII SCHOOL OF UNDERGROUNDMINING 2018 , Cracow, Poland INTRODUCTION  Rock bolting is one of the most efficient supporting devices ever developed  First mechanical rockbolts were applied in a metal mine in the United States already in 1927  Un-tensioned fully encapsulated rockbolts were initially used in poor ground in the early seventies  Although the rockbolt support system is the most efficient, it has not been applied extensively in the complex geomechanical conditions of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB)  The steel arches support system predominated in USCB, although the steel arches supports are combined broadly with bolting in last decade
