Practical aspects of applying ŁPSp and ŁPSp3R flattened arch yielding supports in mines Abstract ŁPSp and ŁPSp3R flattened arch yielding supports that are applied in practice since 2010 have found a broad use in special-purpose and linear headings. Six basic types of flattened arch supports allow for their selection depending on the varying geological and mining conditions in deep mines. Based on a series of practical applications, the article discusses flattened support solutions adjusted for the application in opening longwall crosscuts, closing longwall crosscuts, in broadening the headings, in longwall gates, straight and diagonal crossings, branching, Y junctions and in chambers. The flattened shape of the lining allows for a favourable adjustment of the structure to coal seams, especially those with low inclination, where, in comparison to ŁP- type arch supports, less barren rock ripping is required and the increased width allows for favourable travel of machines in the heading. The observations made up to now indicate that at large depths, flattened supports with bolting are a favourable solution due to their high bearing capacity and stability. Bolting the supports may be conducted both by means of independent girders mounted to the sets of the lining and by means of orifices made in the arches behind the middle joint or in the middle joint itself (overlap of the roof bars).
