Flattened Asymmetrical Arch Support ŁPSpA for Opening Longwall Crosscuts in Deep Hard Coal Mines In opening longwall crosscuts, until approximately the year 2010, different types of support solutions were used, including: ŁP, ŁPKO, ŁPrP, ŁProA, ŁProB, ŁPrw ŁPrP/V32, OŁS, and others. As a result of experience, observations, studies and an innovative approach to the solutions of modern flattened supporting structures, a type-series of ŁPSp and ŁPSp3R supports was developed using the V32 and V36 shapes. Within 7 years of using the ŁPSp supports, it has been found that in case of opening crosscuts, The ŁPSpA - V32/4 structure is commonly selected (four-piece yielding flattened arch support), in which each of the arches is characterized by different dimensions. The ŁPSpA series is comprised of 73 type-sizes for 4- piece sets and of 24 type-sizes for 5-piece sets. The width of the sets may vary from 4.8 m up to 8.7 m at the height of from 2.6 m up to 4.6 m with the possibility of building intermediate sizes. The lining made of ŁPSpA sets may be with or without roof-bolting. The stand tests of load bearing capacity of sets in yielding and stiffened conditions with and without roof-bolting have exhibited a high coefficient of use of the load bearing capacity of the set, which – in case of the structure with roof-bolting – exceeds the value of 1. The practical application of the lining was exhibited based on the example of an opening crosscut in KWK „Knurów –Szczygłowice” coal mine.
