Application of ŁPzm roof support arches in the conditions of JSW S.A. KWK „Knurów-Szczygłowice” hard coal mine, Knurów division SUMMARY: Depth of coal seams mined at Polish coal mines continuously increases, which leads to substantial problems to assure stability of mining workings. Keeping the mining work- ings in operational conditions frequently needs erection of roadway supports with more dense spacing between frames and enforces application of shaped sections with oversized dimensions (V36, V44) made of steel with improved strength parameters (S550W, S560W). Therefore, use of collapsible roof support arches with the design that can transfer load from overlying rock strata under permanently worsening geomining conditions seems to be a more beneficial solu- tion. Such a solution can be based on a series of the ŁPZm collapsible roof support arched (col- lapsible modified arches). The paper deals with the use of ŁPzm collapsible roof support at the ‘Knurów-Szczygłowice’ coal mine, the Knurów division. The roof support arches were in- stalled in roadway designed for the ventilation purpose and with the expected lifetime of 15 years, under conditions of impact from several edges of overlying coal seams.
