particular sedimentary layer, the longer was this process stable. This pattern, in turn, makes it possible to predict some important properties of the studied deposits. The ratio of the thickness of the sandstone or the total thickness of the sandstone layers to the thickness of the stratigraphic (studied) interval makes it possible to obtain a given dimensionless coefficient of the relative thickness of the sandstone in an exploration well. The above-average values of this indicator show core areas of paleoflows. The core section of a paleoflow (of an ancient riverbed, delta or coastal current) is a section of a paleoflow that has been formed for the longest time and is distinguished by specific lithological and petrographic criteria. It is important for us that the identified core sections of paleoflows have significant porosity filled with water and gas. If we combine this schematic map with a similar map of anticlines, we can identify areas of high gas volume or areas of high water content in the sandstone pore space. Both parameters negatively affect the safety of work in mining conditions, but an increased gas content requires its enhanced degassing, and an increased water content requires its pumping out. In any case, the task of mining geology is to obtain maximum information about the properties and state of the rock mass, which mining engineers use for practical purposes. 1 - boundaries of plots; 2 - violations; 3 - wells; 4 - K < 0.5 5; K = 0.5-0.75; 6 - K > 0.75 Figure 4. Workings in sedimentary rock are usually insulated with wooden or reinforced concrete structures to increase the safety of miners. In crystalline rocks, such as apatites on the Kola Peninsula, mine workings are stable, but in some cases,
