11 GRAVIMETRIC SYSTEM FOR CONINUOUS OBSERVATION OF MINING TREMORS ABSTRACT: The system was created at the Central Mining Institute in Katowice in 2017 as part of an infrastructure project called the European Plate Observation System – Pl ( www.epos-pl.eu ), implemented in 2015-2020. It consists of two tidal, spring gravimeters of the g-PhoneX type, installed at sites in Kato- wice and Rybnik-Niewiadom, on self-levelling platforms. Gravimeters are complex systems for continu- ous measurements of variations in the Earth's gravity field caused by tidal waves. These waves cause periodic, elastic deformations of the Earth's crust. Their vertical component changes within the range of ±300*10 -8 m/s 2 . Gravimeters also record ground movements caused by natural and mining seismic shocks. The paper presents characteristics of the system and its usefulness in monitoring and assessing the intensity of mining tremors basing on data from gravity monitoring.
