DEGASSING OF COAL MINES AND OTHER MINING AND GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS Volodymyr Baranov, D.Sc. Kateryna Babii, D.Sc. Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics named by N. Poljakov of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Dnipro ABSTRACT: Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics named by N. Poljakov of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established to solve mining, geological and geotechnological problems in the development of mineral deposits in the middle of the last century. Ukraine has a crystalline shield, three coal basins, thousands of deposits of iron, coal, rare and trace metals and elements. During the period of his work, many methods have been developed to improve the safety of work at mining enterprises, the degassing of coal mines, and the prediction of dynamic, gas-dynamic and thermal phenomena. At the beginning of this century, the institute created the first power plant in Ukraine at a mine that runs on methane. The paper shows several phenomena and regularities described in the paper, which, together with many others, can be used in the mining industry of other countries. KEYWORDS: methods, degassing, coal mines, quasicrystals, structures, catagenesis, sandstones, paleoflows Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics named by M. Poljakov of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established in 1967 to solve a complex of geotechnological problems in the development of mineral deposits. Initially, the Institute had a set of tasks from the beginning of the development of deposits (exploration, planning, design and construction of mines, quarries, mining infrastructure and equipment) to their liquidation (closure of mines, completion of quarries, processing of industrial waste, reclamation of man-made objects ...). The main objects of research in Institute were metal (Krivoy Rog iron ore basin, Nikopol manganese basin, Volnogorsk basin of rare earth metals, uranium ores, etc.), non-metallic (graphite, gypsum, building materials) and combustible minerals (Donetsk coal basin, Lvov- Volyn coal basin, Western Donbass). In addition, in Ukraine there is a crystalline shield with a large number of minerals. Previously, about 20 thousand deposits were developed, where more than a hundred types of minerals were mined. There are three pegmatite zones on the crystalline shield, which are associated with deposits and ore occurrences of rare and trace metals and elements. For coal mines, a lot of effort has been spent on improving the safety of work, predicting the outburst hazard of coal, rocks and gas in coal mines. This publication will describe several scientific areas that relate to mining geology and some research results obtained by the authors in recent decades. The described phenomena and patterns may be characteristic or basic for other deposits in Poland or other countries. It is clear that each deposit is unique and has its own characteristics, but there are quite a lot of rock properties, conditions for their formation and subsequent transformation that are inherent in other, similar deposits.
