Title: Improvement of corrosion resistance of mine shaft equipment components on the example of the Polish Mining Group KWK \"Wujek\" branch

Autorzy: Grzegorz Kaczmarczyk - Polska Grupa Górnicza S.A. oddział KWK "Wujek"

Streszczenie:

The coal industry suffers significant losses due to corrosion. The extent of these losses consists of many factors, the main ones being the significant aggressiveness of the mine environment and the atmosphere. Direct losses are associated with indirect losses. Indirect losses include equipment failures and production stoppages as well as the need to repair or replace corroded components, which involves additional costs. Corrosion of underground equipment and components can be particularly dangerous if it causes a threat to the safety of the working crew. Since the coal mining industry mainly uses constructional material of ordinary quality carbon steels as a construction material, the work focuses on discussing the reaction of iron with the environment and preventing corrosion, and in particular the use of dipping methods. The existing methods of corrosion protection for mining structures are limited in principle, for the use of paint coatings, and in rare cases - zinc coatings obtained by dipping or spraying. Depending on the working conditions and aggressiveness of the environment paint coatings require renovation treatments already after 1 year, and often immediately after commissioning due to damage during transport and assembly work. Very often, any renovation work is impossible due to difficult access to assembled structures and devices, high humidity of up to 100%, dustiness, water leaks and limitation of the use of many painting products due to volatile and toxic solvents. For this reason, refurbishment works are being abandoned; this particularly applies to constructions and pipelines installed in shafts, sumps and mine undergrounds. As a result, corrosion occurs within a short time, causing irreversible damage and production downtime. In order to reduce corrosion losses in mining, materials and protections should be used to guarantee long-term corrosion protection. In many cases, this will be the only protection of the structure or equipment for the entire period of use; it is therefore profitable to use more durable and at least more expensive safeguards that withstand difficult working conditions. Such protection is provided, among others dip zinc coatings, which significantly exceed the durability of hitherto used protections with paint coatings.
